Carolina Moon - East Of The SunThe season of long balmy evenings, longer drinks and cool music is upon us and music doesn’t come much cooler than this cocktail jazz from Kiwiland.
Singer Carolina Moon will be better known to some readers as Caroline Lynn, as she was in her Sydney years, when her music was more adventurous. This sounds like a conscious effort to appeal to a wider audience and yet it’s ribbed with sufficient substance to engage the listener as well as soothing the summer reveller. Coco is a case in point: a tune written by the late Jann Rutherford, to which Moon has set a tender lyric, sung with unadorned feeling against Kevin Field’s piano. Her voice has such an elfin lightness to it that the music never harries the listener.
The support cast includes the cruisy tenor saxophone of Roger Manins and Nigel Gavin.
