Recording information: 1962 - 1965. This
disc captures the chameleonic Bobby Darin in his most popular phase,
that of the Sinatra-fixated big-band singer. In the first half of the
1960s, during his tenure at Capitol Records, Darin (who had started out
in rock & roll) trafficked in a style that had gone out of fashion,
but the young man from the Bronx, NY nevertheless brought the classic
swing sound to the fore once again for a brief time. Though the
mercurial Darin would go on to record folk-rock, country, and more, he
rarely sounded as at ease as he does on "I'm Beginning to See the
Light" or "The Good Life." Even on an ostensibly melancholic tune such
as "This Nearly Was Mine," Darin injects so much joie de vivre that it
comes off as pure exultation. As compilations go, THE SWINGING SIDE OF
BOBBY DARIN provides an excellent portrait of what made the former
Walden Robert Cassotto a natural swing stylist. | | Given
a first-rate arranger & big band, he could swing like the best.
Here are 13 remastered standards including "I Got Rhythm", "Fly Me To
The Moon", "All Of You" and more. |
