2025 UK/EU 6-track LP pressed on 180-gram black vinyl, originally released in 1966 in the British Jazz Explosion Lansdowne Series.

A long-coveted holy grail of British jazz, Pendulum marked the stunning 1966 debut of pianist-composer Mike Taylor. Recorded at the iconic Lansdowne Studios with pioneering producer Denis Preston, the album captures the creative peak of a fiercely original musical mind, lost too soon. This long-overdue reissue by Decca is remastered from the original tapes using Gearbox Records' acclaimed all-analogue mastering chain: a Studer C37 ¼-inch tape machine, vintage valve EQ and limiters, and a 1967 Haeco Scully Lathe — the same used by Rudy Van Gelder — for lacquer cutting.

Side One features radical reinterpretations of jazz standards - including an explosive, extended version of Dizzy Gillespie's "A Night In Tunisia" - while Side Two showcases Taylor's bold and adventurous compositions, rich with modal explorations and rhythmic interplay. His quartet, featuring Dave Tomlin (saxophone), Tony Reeves (bass), and John Hiseman (drums), deliver crisp, intuitive performances throughout. Taylor's tragic story - culminating in his death by drowning in 1969 at age 30 - has cast a long shadow over his work, but this release allows a fresh reappraisal of his rare and remarkable contribution to British jazz.

Picture sleeve with original cover artwork and 4-page insert with new liner notes, hype sticker & factory sealed.
