2006 CD release.
Albert Ammons is rightly feted as the King of Boogie Woogie. America's Boogie Woogie craze of the late 30's and early 40's was originally in the hands of a few Black pianists before the big bands got a hold of the style and developed it into the biggest music craze the world had then seen.
Here are 36 of Albert Ammons' greatest recordings on a fantastic double CD set, recorded between 1939 and 1949 mostly in Chicago. On many of these tracks Albert is accompanied by his son Gene Ammons generally acknowledged as one of the greatest tenor saxophonists in Jazz history.
