Angelica Sanchez Quartet - ¡BRILLA! SUITE

There is a patience and confidence exhibited in all of the musicians on this date that results in a strong, expressive, and coherent modern artifact. In an age where many tend to sample music in coffee spoons, a complete listening of this album offers infinitely greater rewards.

There is much to savor here, and the arc of the album is impressive, lending itself to the book reading process rather than a summary. In listening to the entire album, dynamics, touch, and innate lyricism are constantly confirmed within compositions with large amounts of open-form improvisation. From the opening to the end, this collection tells many stories.

Angelica Sanchez: piano
Adam O’Farrill: trumpet, electronics
John Hébert: double bass
Chad Taylor: drums
