Sudden in a Shaft of Sunlight was the second of the two albums from the Melbourne trio Browne Haywood Stevens, featuring Allan Browne (drums), Nick Haywood (bass) and Tim Stevens (piano). This co-operative, leader-less trio was a feature of the Melbourne jazz scene between 199and 2000, and held a Monday night residency at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club.
Playing mostly original repertoire composed by Tim Stevens, the trio also performed tunes from the standard repertoire of popular song, and compositions from the jazz tradition by the likes of Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, and Duke Ellington.
