1981 recording

Buck Hill, a fine tenor saxophonist, had a day job for years as a mailman in the Washington, D.C., area. It was not until he was 50 in 1978 that he had his first opportunity to lead his own record date.
This particular album, recorded at the same Northsea Jazz Festival that had already resulted in Easy to Love, features Hill in 1981 leading a quartet also including pianist Reuben Brown, bassist Wilbur Little, and drummer Billy Hart. Hill, who has a thick tone and a bop-based style, stretches out on "Alone Together," "Yesterdays," "Impressions," and Brown's "Penn Station." The solos of Hill and Brown are excellent if not overly memorable, and the results are pleasing and swinging while being a little explorative in spots.
