By 1960, the time of these recordings, Cecil Taylor had reached a stage of development that was both individualistic and forward looking.
His style was uniquely his and it had an awesome authority that has remained with him to the present day. He is now a stylistic leader and his playing has proved to be the inspiration behind two generations of pianists, as well as musicians on a wide range of other instruments.
