Duke Jordan Trio - In Concert from Japan / 2CD set

This two-CD set by the Duke Jordan Trio combines both portions of the 1976 Osaka concert previously issued separately; the pianist is joined by the late Wilbur Little on bass and drummer Roy Haynes. The fare is heavily weighted toward Jordan's original works, with a few exceptions. A somewhat low key "I'll Remember April" serves as the opener, though it is suddenly faded as the leader completes his solo. Charlie Parker's "Bluebird" is likewise an easygoing affair, while Duke Ellington's "Solitude" is a touching, understated solo ballad feature and "Cherokee" is a showcase for Haynes' solo fireworks. Two versions of "Jordu," Jordan's best-known composition, are present, as well as "Flight to Jordan" and a brief sign-off of "Flight to Japan." AllmusicGuide
