Eliane Elias - Dreamer

Superficially, this is a vocal-and-piano album - ballads and bossas with light rhythm accompaniment, plus added colour from a string section - but the minute perfection of touch, timbre and timing sets it apart.

The inevitable comparison is with Diana Krall, and if you liked Krall's The Look of Love you're almost guaranteed to like this. About half the pieces are from Elias's native Brazil, with the rest made up of standards and a couple of originals. The great guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves sparks the rhythm section with the lightest of touches, and Michael Brecker's tenor saxophone makes a couple of all-too-brief appearances.
