In a world of stress, friction, worry and the relentless buzz of necessity Jonathan Zwartz creates music akin to the release of a long sigh; music that inclines us to let the sounds wash over us ... it has a deep peacefulness and a simple beauty ... with wandering melodies leading to gorgeous soft-focus solos ... diaphanous, swelling and finally haunting.' John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald 2013

'This is a stunningly beautiful album, full of warmth, with touches of Ellington and Mingus, of soul and pop. The compositions develop organically and effortlessly adding to the feeling that the album is a suite of connected pieces. Zwartz has come up with another superb album.' Phil Sandford, Australian Jazz 2013

'Bass player extraordinaire ... Jonathan Zwartz.' Iain Sheddan, The Australian 2013

In the five years since Jonathan Zwartz released his debut album 'The Sea' it has rarely fallen out of the Birdland 'Best Sellers' list for good reason. With tunes that sound as fresh today as when it was released masterfully played by an exceptional band, 'The Sea' is music that transports those hearing it for the first time and continually reveals new depths and layers no matter how often you play it. While it's a great 'jazz' album, it's really just good music that appeals to many who wouldn't perhaps normally like 'jazz'.

J.Z. has again achieved something special with his follow up album - 'The Remembering and Forgetting of the Air'.

'Sea' band members Barney McAll, Phil Slater, Hamish Stuart and Fabian Hevia return, joined by Julien Wilson (Saxophones), James Greening (Trombone), Richard Maegraith (Saxophones) and Steve Magnusson (Guitar) on seven new shimmering Zwartz originals that lay out a luminous path for the listener to follow. If 'The Sea' looked in the direction of 'Kind Of Blue' by Miles Davis, then musical colours from the palette of Charles Mingus and his album 'Ah Um' whisper quietly in the ear of 'The Remembering and Forgetting of the Air'.

The bonus disc that accompanies the album provides a change of mood with the band revving up the motor and swinging hard before kicking back into the deep funk-soul groove of the 13.00 minute 'Curtis'.

'The Remembering and Forgetting of the Air' is an exceptional release.
