2023 release

Originally released in 1998

Over the last several years, Kurt Rosenwinkel has attracted a devoted following in New York City. Fans and musicians alike flock to Smalls jazz club to hear Kurt performing his original compositions in a brilliant group that includes Mark Turner, Scott Kinsey, Jeff Ballard and Ben Street. As both a guitarist and a composer, he has been heralded as one of the most original voices on the current jazz scene. Intuit, his second recording as a leader, highlights another side of Kurt's musical expression: his love of bebop and the standards repertoire.
Born of two musical parents, he was exposed to both jazz and classical music early on. As a teenager in his hometown of Philadelphia, Kurt attended jam sessions at that city's Blue Note jazz club. At these spirited sessions, Kurt quickly learned the difference between the music on the printed page and the sounds he heard from the musicians around him. While attending the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Kurt spent many hours jamming with fellow students after classes - sometimes as much as 12 hours a day. Throughout all of these sessions, Kurt strove to make the music swing and feel good. It is this passion, dedication, and energy that suffuses every one of Kurt's performances. These qualities are in abundance in his playing on Intuit.
