This is the first duo album by Masafumi Yamaguchi, a treasure of the Japanese jazz scene, and first-call pianist Mayuko Katakura. The theme is a collection of 1960s compositions by musicians known as the "New Mainstream," such as Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, and this ambitious work shines a spotlight on them with a unique interpretation. The title, "Next Standards," reflects the belief that these songs are "next-generation standards" that should be passed on to the next generation.
