2025 UK/EU 8-track LP pressed on 180-gram black vinyl, originally released in 1967 in the British Jazz Explosion Lansdowne Series.
Trio by Mike Taylor is a singular document of British jazz in its most exploratory and emotive form. Pianist Mike Taylor — joined here by Jack Bruce and/or Ron Rubin on bass and John Hiseman on drums — shapes a deeply introspective sound, drawing on modern modal jazz, lyrical improvisation and elegant restraint. The set includes a rich balance of standards such as “All The Things You Are” and “Stella By Starlight” alongside Taylor's own contemplative originals like “Two Autumns” and “Guru”. His distinctive harmonic sensibility and touch on the piano, both delicate and searching, give this album a timeless emotional resonance.
This new edition has been remastered from the original tapes at Gearbox Records' London studio, using the finest all-analogue equipment: a Studer C37 ¼-inch tape machine, vintage valve EQ and limiters, and a 1967 Haeco Scully Lathe — the same used by Rudy Van Gelder — for lacquer cutting. The result is a warm, spacious and intimate rendering of this long-overlooked masterpiece. Picture sleeve with original cover artwork and 4-page insert with new liner notes, hype sticker & factory sealed.
