Candice Hoyes, Mimi Jones, and Val Jeanty - the visionary forces behind Nite Bjuti - are architects of a new New York City sound. United by a boundary-pushing spirit, they fuse turntables, rhythmic bass, and poetic lyricism to honor the community and lineage of the Caribbean diaspora. Born from reflections on love and communal resilience, Minwi looks toward a future rooted in empathy and mutual care. They treat the creation of 'home' as an ongoing, collective practice - a necessary response to the systemic challenges and displacement currently facing Black, Brown, and immigrant communities across the globe. As Karen Gabay says in the liner notes: "This album is a rarity in the 21st century" and in a statement accompanying the album, guest flautist Nicole Mitchell declares that "What Candice, Val and Mimi are doing with Nite Bjuti will be imprinted into the history of this time and space for Black women a cross the Atlantic (...) This is not a group climbing for recognition. This is a collective with a soulful mission."
