Shinsuke Fujieda Group – Informel - 2 x 180g Vinyl LPs
Limited Edition Japanese Import - due late 2026
2026. October release - maybe
*INFORMEL* is a live album by the group led by Tokyo-based saxophonist and flutist Shinsuke Fujieda; originally recorded in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and released in 2021, it has now been reissued on vinyl in a deluxe edition—featuring a remaster and a reconstruction of the material from a fresh perspective, moving beyond the scope of the original massive 2-CD/DVD set. Arriving while the excitement still lingers from the 2025 release of *Fukushima*—a contemporary Japanese spiritual/modal jazz studio album that rapidly captivated jazz fans worldwide—this release captures the historic moment that served as the very catalyst for the creation of *Fukushima*.
Spanning approximately 73 minutes, this album captures a performance where live painting and music unfold simultaneously. It is a major work filled with the dynamic energy, depth, and emotion unique to a live setting—ranging from the premiere of "Fukushima" (a modal jazz piece resembling a raw, visceral cry) and the exhilarating, 19-minute "Gentle Erosion," to "Informel" (which builds gradually over a looping rhythm), the classical-tinged "Nobody Knows" (featuring light string tones intertwining with soprano sax and piano), and the brisk, bouncy "Parade."
Listening to the sound reveals that the prototype for the album *Fukushima* was already taking shape here; one realizes that this release—reconstructed specifically for the vinyl format—is not merely a "prototype" or a simple reissue, but the starting point of a sonic force swirling within the vast creative current the Shinsuke Fujieda Group has charted since the onset of the pandemic. *INFORMEL* is imbued with a vibrant, dynamic sound unique to live performance, serving as a perfect counterpart to the meticulously crafted studio recording of *Fukushima*.
