2015
Yesterday's dreams, today's sound, tomorrow's groove. This is the first full-fledged leader album from the rare genius Shun Ishiwaka, whose presence has been eagerly awaited throughout history.
Shun Ishiwaka's name is now heard in live performances across Japan and across all generations. Having enjoyed the accolade of first-call drummer since his time at Tokyo University of the Arts, he finally releases his long-awaited full-length leader album this year, upon graduating. The most notable aspect of this album is that Ishiwaka himself is a master composer and sound creator, just like his predecessors Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette, Paul Motian, and Ralph Peterson. His highly addictive compositions, which not only encompass jazz and rock but also hint at classical and contemporary music, are unrivaled by any other, and, needless to say, are recorded in one take on analog tape, resulting in an ambitious work that embodies both respect for and challenge of his homeland (jazz).
This work won three New Artist Awards in 2015! "JAZZ JAPAN AWARD 2015 Album of the Year New Star Award," "Jazz Life DISC GRAND PRIX ~ Jazz Album of the Year 2015 New Stars Award," and "28th Music Pen Club Music Award Brightest Hope Award."
