‘PETE KELLY’S BLUES’ – directed by and starring Jack ‘Dragnet’ Webb, in the title role – was an unusually ambitious 1955 movie, a film noir crime musical.
It famously featured Peggy Lee (who was Oscar nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actress’), Ella Fitzgerald, Lee Marvin, Jayne Mansfield and Martin Milner.
Set in Kansas City in the late 1920s, during Prohibition, the movie featured a superb Dixieland jazz soundbed, which span off three separate ‘official’ soundtrack albums, of which two are included herein in their entirety.
