Around 2005, the term "Wa-Jazz" (Japanese jazz) was coined, and Wa-Jazz experienced a minor boom.
When "Wa-Jazz Disc Guide (Koki Hanawa + Yusuke Ogawa)" was published in 2009, it became a major movement, and even now, in 2023, as Japan transitions from the Heisei to the Reiwa era, it continues to attract attention from record collectors worldwide.
Nearly 30 years after the wave of re-evaluation, Wa-Jazz has become firmly established as one of the subdivided musical genres.
The reason it didn't end as a fleeting boom is undoubtedly because the more one delves into it, the more its passionate musicality and the rarity of original pressings are recognized.
