Allen Toussaint's first solo album, from 1971, established the producer and songwriter's definitive musical style of easygoing, loping New Orleans grooves.
Side one is all vocals, with the flip devoted to jazzy instrumental grooves including a remarkable version of Vince Guaraldi's signature tune, "Cast Your Fate to the Wind." Besides Toussaint's own version of his hit for Lee Dorsey, "Working in the Coal Mine," Allen Toussaint also includes his own signature tune, "Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky." This reissue adds two more instrumentals, "Number Nine" and "Poor Folks."
